Bitmovin announces general availability of video transcoding Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to offer high quality live video streaming at reduced costs

Denver, Colorado, September 10, 2024—Bitmovin, a leading video streaming software solutions provider and a member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), announced the launch and immediate general availability of Bitmovin’s VOD and Live Encoder running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This will reduce streaming total cost of ownership (TCO) of VOD by up to 30% and provide its Live SaaS solution to OCI customers.

Bitmovin Encoding on OCI is an easy-to-use, fully-managed video transcoding software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. Bitmovin VOD Encoding allows customers to stream on-demand content to viewing devices. Customers use Bitmovin VOD Encoding for a wide range of on-demand streaming use cases, including Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), Transactional VOD (TVOD), Ad-supported VOD (AVOD) services, online training, and other use cases. Customers use Bitmovin Live Encoder to power major sporting events on media and entertainment platforms and leverage the scale of the SaaS platform to power user-generated content products with thousands of live streams per day. Bitmovin’s Emmy Award®-winning multi-codec outputs and per-scene and per-title content-aware transcoding produce higher visual quality video outputs at lower bit rates than other file-based transcoding SaaS, helping optimize content delivery and reduce streaming costs.

This  proposition helps ensure users can:

Reduce operating costs by lowering total streaming costs, including CDN, storage, and egress, and removing the costs of maintaining in-house technology development and maintenance. Bitmovin VOD Encoding on OCI can reduce in-house engineering resource time by up to 70%.

Generate new revenue by launching a new video streaming service or by generating new advertising revenue using Bitmovin’s pre-integrations with industry-leading third-party Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) SaaS solutions. Content owners can also protect subscription revenue from online piracy by leveraging Bitmovin’s pre-integrated support for the industry’s leading third-party anti-piracy solutions, including digital rights management (DRM) and forensic watermarking.

Retain and grow subscribers via Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder on OCI, which  delivers  high quality video streams at a low bitrate to reach more viewers on different device types—all of which helps maximize reach and minimize churn.

“The combination of the VOD Encoder and OCI means streaming service providers can differentiate by delivering premium viewing experiences, including 8K ultra high-definition video, Dolby Vision high dynamic range color, and Dolby Atmos immersive audio,” said Dave Profozich, senior vice president, Oracle. “Bitmovin’s Live Encoder powered by OCI helps lower operating costs and can help generate incremental premium service and advertising revenue with SSAI integrations while retaining and growing subscribers. The solution addresses a clear market need for better live and on-demand streaming experiences, more predictable operational expenses, and more ways to diversify revenue streams.”

Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder combines widely distributed processing and content-aware encoding that allows content providers to deliver high-quality video to audiences. Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder supports file-based transcoding and static packaging in a single, easy-to-use product. It also provides advanced multi-codec support, including AV1, VP9, HEVC, and H.264. The Bitmovin VOD Encoder also supports industry-standard encryption and studio-grade forensic watermarking to deliver video cost-effectively and securely at resolutions up to 8K Ultra-High Definition (UHD). It automatically scales to optimize for any use case to help maximize operational efficiency and return on investment (ROI).

“Our VOD Encoder provides streaming services with a new standard of quality for a huge range of on-demand use-cases, providing a cinematic experience for viewers on the most devices,” said Stefan Lederer, CEO and co-founder, Bitmovin. “We are incredibly proud that our encoding products are now running on OCI and providing our customers with a way to super-charge their streaming experiences while simultaneously reducing operating costs and providing them with new ways to forge new revenue streams.”
