Bitmovin announces new updates for its Live Encoder

Vienna – Austria, February 15, 2024Bitmovin, the leading provider of video streaming infrastructure, announces key updates for its live encoder to deliver more resilient live streams and help customers maximize revenue opportunities.

Bitmovin’s Live Encoder addresses the industry need for high-quality live streams by optimizing Live-to-VOD workflows, ensuring live streams are available for on-demand playback immediately after the stream has ended. It’s also cloud agnostic, running seamlessly in any cloud environment, removing the need for users to be tied into one vendor’s infrastructure to maintain video encoding workflows. The latest updates to the Bitmovin Encoder include:

Support for SCTE-35 passthrough to HLSSCTE-35 is a standard used to send in-band metadata from one device to another, in most cases, these messages are used to signal Commercial Breaks for Advertisements. This new feature now allows the Live Encoder to detect and pass markers from SRT or Zixi inputs with MPEG-TS streams and map them to tags in the HLS manifest. An additional benefit of this feature is that it has been tested and validated for monetization workflows, including support for Server Side Ad Insertion.

Static RTMPS Ingest points – The Bitmovin Live Encoder now also supports static RTMPS ingest points – providing an easier use to solution for RTMP connections and now supporting secure connections with RTMPS. This feature is in addition to the existing custom RTMP option.

“It’s essential we evolve our products in line with our customers’ needs, and that’s exactly what we’ve done with the latest updates to our Live Encoder,” said Stefan Lederer, CEO and co-founder of Bitmovin. “Our latest Video Developer Report found that advertising topped the list for innovation and growth opportunities; our support for SCTE-35 will provide increased monetization opportunities for broadcasters and content providers by enabling segmenting of viewers into specific demographics and geographic locations.”
