Frequently Asked Questions
CAN I TEST AND INTEGRATE BITMOVIN’S SERVICES FOR FREE?
Yes – Once you sign up, your account comes with a 30 day free trial period, no credit card required, which is great for testing and integrating our API into your app as you can try all features of our API. During this period you can encode one video at a time, only the first 5 seconds of your input file will be encoded and a watermark will be added on top of your encoded content.
HOW DOES THE PER-MINUTE PRICING WORK?
For each content minute, we calculate a number of output minutes. The total amount of output minutes is the sum of output minutes of all encoded video renditions. For example, if your input video duration is 02:00 minutes, and you encode two SD renditions, you end up with 02:00 + 02:00 = 04:00 generated output minutes.
DO YOU CALCULATE MORE OUTPUT MINUTES, IF I CREATE HD and/or UHD?
Yes – While one SD content minute (< 1280×720) equals 1 output minute, an HD content minute(>= 1280×720 and <= 2048×1080) equals 2 output minutes, and an UHD content minute (>= 2048×1080 and <= 4096×2160) equals 4 output minutes.
DOES AN AUDIO OUTPUT MINUTE COST THE SAME AS VIDEO?
No – one audio content minute costs 1/4 of a SD video output minute only.
IS THE PRICING THE SAME FOR ALL AVAILABLE CODECS?
No – For each codec a specific multiplier will be applied to the output minutes of each video rendition using the respective codec. (x1 for H264, x2 H265/HEVC and VP9). This multiplier are applied, because of the increased computational effort it takes encoding more sophisticated codecs like HEVC or VP9.
DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR INPUT MINUTES?
No – We charge you for generated output minutes only.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I EXCEED THE VOLUME OF MINUTES INCLUDED IN MY PLAN?
In this case, the exceeded amount of minutes will be charged based on the overage price of your plan at the end of your ongoing billing period.
CAN I TEST LIVESTREAMING IN THE TRIAL PERIOD AS WELL?
Livestreaming is not available during the 30 day trial period. However, if you are interested in testing this feature as well, before you want to go for a paid subscription, please get in contact with our team via firstname.lastname@example.org.
IS THE PRICING FOR LIVESTREAMING DIFFERENT TO VOD ENCODING?
Livestreams are charged the same way as we charge of VoD content, only difference is that we charge based on virtual output minutes. This means that as soon as you start a live stream (even if you do not ingest anything) we start to calculate the output minutes that this livestream would produce based on your chosen encoding configuration. This should not make a difference if the live streams are utilized after starting. This mainly prevents the case when users start live streams without ingesting anything, as we still have the same costs no matter if our users ingest a stream or not.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE MY PLAN?
You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. Select the plan that best meets your needs. Upgrades will be active at the same day and downgrades at the end of your billing period.
WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
