Bitmovin’s Live Event Encoder to Set New Standard in Live Streaming

Bitmovin, the leader in video streaming infrastructure, announces a new live video encoder which provides audiences with the highest image and audio quality.

Vienna – Austria, August 18th, 2022 – Bitmovin, the leading provider of video streaming infrastructure, today announced its new Live Event Encoder. The Bitmovin Live Event Encoder optimizes start-up times and provides more efficient encoding workflows for developers to deliver live events in the highest image quality to viewers worldwide. OKAST, a leading SaaS cloud-based solution streamlining access to Live, VOD and FAST distribution and monetisation to content creators, producers and distributors is already using the Live Event Encoder.

Bitmovin’s Live Event Encoder addresses the industry need for high-quality live streams by optimizing Live to VOD workflows, ensuring live streams are available for on-demand playback immediately after the stream has ended. It’s also cloud agnostic, running seamlessly in any cloud environment, removing the need for users to be tied into one vendor’s infrastructure to maintain video encoding workflows.

“Our creators view live streaming capabilities as essential because it unlocks a new level of interactivity and engagement that’s just not possible with other content types,” said Cedric Monnier, CEO of OKAST. “We chose Bitmovin’s Live Event Encoder because the Bitmovin brand is synonymous with innovation in video streaming, which now includes live. The Bitmovin Live Event Encoder is the most resilient solution on the market, empowering our creators to build more meaningful relationships with viewers and maximise the reach of their content among new audiences.”

Bitmovin’s Live Event Encoder provides developers and live event operations teams with an unrivalled user experience. Its web-based interface means developers can manage live streams from any device and location, and it has a comprehensive API for deep application integrations. It also offers users advanced control and monitoring tools and notification alerts to help pinpoint errors in real-time. It also supports redundant RTMP, SRT, Zixi inputs, and Digital Rights Management for content protection.

“Live streaming technologies have advanced quickly in recent years. However, too many live streams have a sub-par image and audio quality, which is unacceptable,” said Stefan Lederer, CEO and Co-Founder of Bitmovin. “Our Live Event Encoder solves this challenge by guaranteeing that developers can deliver live streams with unrivalled quality of experience. It’s fantastic to see forward-thinking companies, like OKAST, already reaping the benefits of our Live Event Encoder and setting a new standard for live streaming.”

Bitmovin has already begun building upon its Per-Title Encoding solution for VOD to optimize the feature for Live streaming, with the aim to add this innovative functionality to the Live Event Encoder.  Per-Title for Live will help developers deliver optimum image quality over live bandwidths in a live environment. Per-Title Encoding customizes the bitrate ladder of each video based on the complexity of the video file itself. Its ultimate goal is to select a bitrate that enables the video codec to encapsulate enough information to present the best viewing experience by compressing the data without impacting the viewer’s perceived quality of content.

Bitmovin’s Live Event Encoder will debut at IBC2022. To arrange a briefing with Bitmovin at IBC, please contact [email protected].
