We launched the Video Developer Survey this year with the goal to get an overview of the video technologies developers are using now and plan to use in the next 12 months.
380 video developers worldwide participated in the survey. We asked about video codecs, formats, platforms, monetization technologies, and other components of video workflows they use in their daily work.
What did we learn? We know, for example, that:
- 78% encode for HLS streaming, followed by MPEG-DASH at 56%
- HEVC is the video codec most people are planning to use in the next 12 months
- Cloud encoding is 45% more popular in North America than in Europe
- and much more…
We compiled the findings of the survey in the 2017 Video Developer Report, which you can download here. We hope it provides you with useful information about what your peers are working on.
We’ve learned a great deal about how developers are working with video and what their plans are for the next year. We’re looking forward to the 2018 Video Developer Survey next year!
