DRM Support

This page lists the officially supported DRMs of the Bitmovin player. The DRM system could be configured through our JavaScript API and player configuration.

Content Protection & Digital Rights Management

MPEG-DASH is agnostic to DRMs and can also be used with MPEG Common Encryption (CENC), which allows the usage of different DRM systems in parallel with one version of protected content.

Before that, it was necessary to generate a protected version of the content for each DRM system. The MPEG-CENC ContentProtection element of the MPD is used to identify a content protection scheme. This element provides enough information for the client to determine whether it can possibly play the protected content. Typically the content will be encrypted once with, e.g., AES and is then made compatible with multiple DRM systems such as PlayReady, Widevine, Adobe Access or PrimeTime.

Bitmovin provides a single player alternative for premium content providers enabling DRM support for mobile an desktop platforms without plugins through HTML5.
