NAB Show – Presentations and Panel Discussions
CEO Stefan Lederer will participate in one panel discussion, CIO Christian Timmerer will give a presentation about “Live transcoding and streaming-as-a-service with low delay and high QoE” and Director of Sales, Gerald Zankl will speak about “Cloud video streaming without plug-ins”.
Panel Debate 2: Are you ready for the mobile video revolution?
Stefan Lederer – CEO & Co-Founder
Date: Mon. Apr. 18 at 3:00 – 3:45pm
Location: CM|IP Pavilion
According to some estimates, the amount of video watched on mobile devices will soon overtake the traditional living room TV. And yet, mobile offers considerably more than just a smaller screen and portability. With mobile as a personal viewing platform and a beacon for a more granular understanding of the viewer, the mobile video experience offers many benefits and considerable challenges for TV service providers and broadcasters. In this CM|IP Panel, we bring together experts to help understand what the current mobile video market looks like and examine how it is likely to evolve over the next few years. We ask questions around the emerging technologies that operators in this space need to understand and the underlying mechanisms needed to deliver profitability in the new mobile-centric world.
Live transcoding and streaming-as-a-service – low delay high QoE
“In this talk we describe how to deploy transcoding and streaming-as-a-service platform based on open standards.”
Christian Timmerer – CIO & Co-Founder
Date: Wed. Apr. 20 at 3:30 – 4:00pm
BEC – Television on Multiple Platforms
Multimedia content delivery and real-time streaming over the top of the existing infrastructure is nowadays part and parcel of every media ecosystem, thanks to open standards and the adoption of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) as its primary mean for transportation. Hardware encoder manufacturers have adopted their product lines to support the dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP but suffer from the inflexibility to provide scalability on demand, specifically for event-based live services that are only offered for a limited period of time. The cloud computing paradigm allows for this kind of flexibility and provides the necessary elasticity in order to easily scale with the demand required for such use case scenarios. In this talk we describe how to deploy transcoding and streaming-as-a-service platform based on open standards (i.e., mainly MPEG-DASH) utilizing standard cloud and content delivery infrastructures to enable low-delay and high-quality streaming to heterogeneous clients. We describe how to deploy it for video on demand, 24/7 live and event-based live services. The talk also provides comprehensive evaluation results both with regard to the transcoding/streaming and client adaptation behavior. It allows attendees to identify bottlenecks in their transcoding and streaming workflows and how to use public infrastructure components and MPEG-DASH to overcome existing limitations.
Cloud video streaming without plug-ins
“In today’s online environment, users expect video to be available on every device and across every platform with low start-up delay and no buffering.”
Gerald Zankl – Director of Sales, EMEA
Date: Tue. Apr. 19 at 4:00 – 4:30pm
Location: CM|IP Pavilion
In today’s online environment, users expect video to be available on every device and across every platform with low start-up delay and no buffering. Due to a reliance on older technologies, many companies throughout the video industry are losing subscriptions, losing advertisers and losing money as their users become frustrated by slow video. This presentation will explain how to deliver the best possible user experience through cutting-edge online video streaming solutions including VR and 360° capabilities. Specifically, this will look at cloud encoding, playback with HTML5, and how the combination of the two can deliver a lightning fast, scalable, multi platform, adaptive streaming solution.
