DRM Workflow: How to Provide Protected Content to Desktop, Mobile, TV’s & Streaming Boxes

DRM is a necessary evil for premium content providers, but with the recent streaming formats and standards, it gets rather easy to create DRM-protected streaming systems. MPEG-DASH with Common Encryption (CENC), together with HLS and FairPlay, is the state-of-the-art DRM approach to reach the majority of platforms today. This hands-on workshop focuses on the common approaches used in 2017, as well as how to go beyond just streaming, e.g., enabling offline playback of DRM protected-content. Furthermore, the future e.g., using HLS with fMP4, as well as CMAF, is discussed. You will have an opportunity to practice the concepts covered during the workshops. Please bring laptops to take full advantage of this session.

360/VR Video Streaming in 2017

360 and VR video are one of the major topics in the industry this year. This panel will discuss which platforms content providers are targeting, i.e. Web, Smartphones, or VR head-sets. In particular the panel will discuss which projections, streaming formats, and rendering techniques are used to stream content today. It will also discuss how new codecs like HEVC, VP9 or AV1, or new streaming standards like Omnidirectional Media Application Format (OMAF) of MPEG will enable better quality and new use cases.

The 5 Myths of Cloud-Based Encoding

The volume of content being brought online coupled with the increase in video processing to serve device-based consumption will far outpace content companies’ managed workflow growth, creating a need to expand encoding and streaming workflow capacity. Bitmovin will discuss this challenge, its hybrid cloud workflow and common myths regarding cloud-based encoding solutions.

Presented by Sean Longworth, CRO

When: Wednesday, May 17 | 12:45 p.m. – 1:05 p.m. | CMIP Presentation Theater
