Why the 360° Video and VR rendering modes are not available on iOS devices?

The different rendering modes for 360° and VR videos are not available on iOS devices, due to some restrictions. In more detail, we have to use the “native” HLS support of the HTML5 video element on iOS devices, as the MSE is not available and Flash does obviously not work either. Furthermore, it is not possible to add an overlay on top of the native fullscreen mode, which is automatically entered when playing a video on iPhone. This missing support of overlays makes it impossible to apply different rendering modes, like the two eye view for VR headsets, to the video.
