Timeshift with live streaming - Bitmovin Player

Please note: As of January 2016 we are now referring to bitdash as the Bitmovin Adaptive Streaming Player. You can read more about the Bitmovin rebranding here.
Is bitdash 3.1 the best player we have ever built? That’s for sure. But let me explain why. Our brand new release contains not only fancy new features, like timeshift, support for external subtitles or a new and fully featured Chromecast app, it also comes with lots of improvements with regard to usability and handy updates for mobile devices.

Enable Timeshift in Live Scenarios

Timeshift in the Bitmovin playerTimeshift is undoubtedly one of the most useful features when it comes to live streaming. Everybody knows how handy it can be to press “pause” to get yourself another drink or leave the room for a short time and not miss meaningful scenes from a movie. But bitdash’s timeshift is not limited to that. By specifying a timeshift-window within the streaming manifest, it becomes possible to freely jump back and forth on the timeline to any desired moment. To see this exciting feature in action, please visit our live stream demo.

Fully Featured Chromecast Support

The brand new bitdash Chromecast app comes with all the handy features, known from the desktop player, including skinning, DVR, DRM support and much more. You can try Chromecast yourself in our demo area.

Further New Features: Improved Adaptation Logic, Skinning on all Devices, Usability Enhancements and Much More…

skin[1]Within bitdash 3.1 we extended the skinning support to iOS platforms to provide a consistent look and feel for all. With regard to our adaptation logic, we also added an additional configuration option which makes it possible to differentiate between desktop and mobile devices. Get more information about it in our developer area.
Another very useful feature is the support of TTML subtitles/captions for VoD – and in particular – for Live streams. And we are happy to announce that we are one of the first player manufacturers who support EBU Time Text (EBU-TT).

What’s Coming Next?

The next few weeks will be characterised by advertising support, where we will implement integration for Digital Video Ad Serving Template (VAST) based solutions.
So, stay tuned for more details and exciting enhancements!
All the best,
a Bitmover called Reinhard.
